Around the World in Coffees

Are you planning to travel abroad? Perhaps you’ve already got your trip booked and are counting down the days. Whatever your itinerary, foreign travel is an exciting and rewarding adventure. However, there are lots of things you’ll need to tick off your to-do list before you go.

One of the most important tasks to complete before travelling is converting your Indian Rupees (INR) into the currency of the country you’re travelling to. Currency exchange can be a complicated process, especially if you don’t know how much your INR are worth in your destination’s currency.

To show the value of INR and help you get to grips with currency conversion, we’ve compiled this handy guide based on the cost of coffee. Below, we’ll be taking a look at the cost of a single cup of coffee in 7 major currencies, and how that shapes up in INR.

Don’t forget: currency exchange rates are always changing. Make sure to check with Supreme Forex for the best exchange rates, whether you’re buying or selling foreign currency!

Singapore

Singapore is a country and city-state made up of 64 islands. Locals speak a combination of 4 official languages; Malay, English, Tamil, and Singaporean Mandarin. The city’s vibrant culture, luxury shopping opportunities, and countless tourist attractions make it the perfect place for a city break.

Singapore is known as one of the most expensive cities to live in, so it’s no surprise that a cup of high-end coffee can cost up to 6 Singapore dollars. However, on average the price of coffee is relatively cheap, and a standard americano will run you 2.67 Singapore dollars

But what’s the Singapore dollar to INR exchange rate? Today (15/11/23), the currency exchange sits at 61.61, meaning 61.61 INR will buy you 1 Singapore dollar. That means an americano from the average Singaporean coffee shop will cost 164.39 INR.

Bangkok

The capital city of Thailand, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon, also known as Bangkok, is the country’s most populous area. This makes Bangkok perfect for travellers who love the hustle and bustle, but still want to visit stunning Buddhist temples and beautiful beaches.

The Thai baht to INR exchange rate is favourable on 15/11/23 at 2.34, so Bangkok is also a perfect budget travel destination if you don’t want to break the bank. However, coffee is relatively expensive, with the average cup in Bangkok costing 70 Baht. Not to mention, if you want iced coffee, you’ll likely have to pay a little bit more.

Using the Thai baht to INR currency exchange, we can work out that one cup of coffee in Bangkok will cost you 163.46 INR. Of course, cheaper options will be available from smaller, independent coffee shops around the city.

New York

New York is one of the most famous cities on the entire planet. It’s known for the high life, with its residents enjoying everyday luxury. This is why travelling to the Big Apple is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

However, NYC isn’t exactly renowned for budget-friendly travel. But, with a whole host of coffee shops dotted around the 5 boroughs, you’ll be sure to find a cup of coffee that suits your spending habits. On average, one cup will cost 3.12 USD.

When it comes to USD to INR, today’s (15/11/23) exchange rate is 83.15. As we’ve seen, that means 83.15 INR will buy you 1 USD. From that, we can work out that a 3.12 USD cup of coffee in New York will cost around 259.41 INR.

London

London, England’s capital and commercial centre, hosts around 30 million tourists each and every year. From Big Ben and the London Eye to the Houses of Parliament and Trafalgar Square, the list of impressive sights to see in the city is just about endless.

Make sure you’ve got a quality camera and some comfortable walking shoes - you’re definitely going to need them on your London trip. Thankfully, you can always pop into a cafe for a refreshing cup of coffee. However, London’s coffee prices aren’t cheap.

In fact, the price of coffee in London is the most expensive in the entire UK, with the average cup of Joe costing around 2.55 GBP. British pound to INR exchange is currently 103.31 on 15/11/23, meaning a cup of coffee will cost 263.45 INR. Spoiler alert: that’s the most expensive coffee on this list!

Paris

Known as the City of Love, Paris is a travel destination that’s on almost everyone’s bucket list. Just wandering around its cobbled streets, you’ll come across historic architecture and romantic cafes nestled between boutiques and boulangeries.

Speaking of bakeries, who doesn’t love a cup of coffee with their morning croissant? According to a survey of 110 cafes around the city, the average cup of coffee in Paris will cost 2.72 euros

Using today’s (15/11/23) EURO to INR exchange rate of 90.15, we can see that 90.15 INR will buy 1 euro. Again, with EURO to INR, that means a cup of coffee in Paris will cost 245.21 INR. Like in any major city, you’ll get a more favourable currency exchange if you opt for independent coffee shops instead of chains.

Toronto

Next up: Toronto, the Canadian city that has something for every visitor, no matter where they come from. From intense hockey matches to bustling city streets with vintage markets, and day trips to scenic ski resorts, a trip to Toronto is sure to be full of fun and thrills.

Toronto is also known for its coffee culture, with locals preferring to visit small cafes instead of chains. Although, Tim Horton’s is a classic Canadian cafe that you should definitely visit on your trip. In general, the average americano in Toronto will cost 2.31 Canadian dollars

Canadian dollar to INR exchange rates are sitting at 60.88 on 15/11/23. This is a favourable currency exchange that makes Canada an affordable country to visit if you want to experience North America. Using this exchange rate, we can see that the average cup of coffee in Toronto will cost 140.63 INR.

Sydney

Last but not least, Sydney is Australia’s second biggest city. It offers an incredible experience for tourists, with the best of city life, surfer culture, museums and monuments, a roaring club scene, and enough quirky cafes to satisfy any coffee lover.

And that’s without mentioning the currency exchange. Currently, on 15/11/23 the Australian dollar to INR exchange is 54.12, meaning 54.12 INR will buy 1 Australian dollar. Though Sydney isn’t the cheapest city, it’s a great option if you want more bang for your buck.

But, let’s see how Sydney stacks up when it comes to coffee. In the city, an average cappuccino is 3.95 Australian dollars. Using the current currency exchange for the Australian dollar to INR, that means one cappuccino will likely cost you around 213.67 INR.

In Conclusion

If you’re travelling to one of these cities, now you know what your rupees are worth on the global currency exchange. Here are the key currency takeaways based on the "inter-bank rates" of above currencies on 15/11/23:

1. Thai baht to INR has the most favourable exchange rate for Indian travellers.

2. Next up is Australian dollar to INR, providing a surprisingly good deal.

3. Then we have Canadian dollar to INR, and they have some of the cheapest coffee, too!

4. This is closely followed by Singapore dollar to INR. But don’t forget, general prices in Singapore are likely to be a little more expensive.

5. Exchange rates start to climb with USD to INR, so you’ll need to change a few more rupees if you’re travelling to New York.

6. Next comes the EURO to INR exchange, but thankfully coffee is relatively affordable in Europe.

7. Finally, the most expensive exchange for Indian travellers changing their rupees is British pound to INR.

However, coffee prices vary from city to city for various reasons. These include growing conditions, minimum wages, and transportation costs. With this in mind, before you decide where you’ll take your next vacation, be sure to do further research and check with Supreme Forex.

We wish you safe travels no matter the city you end up in!
